Weekend plans in Lugano

The city of Lugano has launched its Christmas festivites on December 1st.
Should you NOT wish to go Christmas shopping in the one and only Grancia commercial center, check out downtown where you’ll find an Advent market in the Piazza Riforma. It will be populated by lots of quaint little houses in which every day from 11.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. you’ll be able to find lots of different Christmas decorations and products.
The city of Lugano has put up an Ice rink in Piazza Manzoni where you can go skating outdoors on a surface of pure ice. The rink will be open free of charge every day from 11.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.; staff will also be present to rent out skates (these are given upon payment).
The Via Nassa Association and the shopkeepers of the town centre even this year propose the “Christmas in Jazz” festival with free jazz concerts in Piazza San Carlo from 3.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. on the 9th, 11th, 12th, 16th, 18th, and 23rd of December. Also a gospel concert is foreseen (always for this festival) on December 19th 2010 at 7.00 p.m. in the Immacolata Church (Via Peri).
Visit the Gabbani food stalls in Via Pessina who will be hosting a “degustation” of Norwegian Balik salmon smoked according to their secret recipe.
If you are REALLY lucky and manage to be in Piazza Riforma around 2.30pm tomorrow afternoon a reindeer told me that Father Christmas will be passing by on his Harley Davidson to greet the children.
So, get your warm socks out and put your winter boots on and run down to the city center to relish in a bit of holiday spirit.
